The 420 code shows that your o2 sensors are probably working . My 2000 v6 has the code most of the time . Like Anders said , the engine has plenty of oil blowing through the turbo , then out via the pcv trap and into the throttle body , but it never gets burned up , especially in traffic driving . I tried the spark plug anti fouler , but there isn't enough clearance for the o2 sensor in the exhaust tunnel .
The code really doesn't affect the engine , as there is no feedback circuit ...but the big issue is Emissions Testing . If your state DMV requires smog testing ...You may face a difficult challenge , I know , because my car wasn't grandfathered in , and last year I had to go through the incredible task of passing emissions testing here in Washington State .
The car passed ...but it was a longer story than this post .
And yes , Cheap gas is just that . Try the good stuff and get out there and heat up that catalytic . Disconnect the battery and the car will reset the onboard diagnostics , and read about OBD drive cycles .
Good Luck !
