Brake Master Cylinder ?? Looking for confirmation . . . Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sun, 15 Jul 2018 15:58:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Okay - got my daughter's '06 SC all fixed up to to return to her. Took it out and all seemed great - but when I did a low speed stop for pedestrians in a parking lot, the pedal softly dropped lower than it had been - maybe half way to the floor, then got firm and stopped okay. I paid attention the rest of the drive, and 9 out of 10 times all was fine with nice firm pedal like I expected. The tenth time reverted to the 'drop some, then firm'.
To me this seems like a pretty clear cut master cylinder problem. Probably seal wear and maybe a pitted area in the bore, so it works well unless the damaged bore is encountered. There's no leaking brake fluid. Brakes work really well once engaged. I have not touched the brakes lately, but I replaced front rotors and pads in December and bled the brakes using a power bleeder - I avoided any pedal bleeding. The current pads and rotors are wearing evenly and minimally. This car has 145K miles, and I bought it with 111K and sparse maintenance records, so what happened before is not recorded.
I'd like some other opinions before I change out the MC for $$ and my sweat equity.
Thanks in advance !
