The 2006+ cars are very similar to what you have so the technical advantages are minimal. I don't like rust so the less rusty 2008 is definitely an advantage to me. Get it thoroughly rust proofed if you buy it.
There were about 1367 changes to the 2006+. The dashboard is a more modern derivative of the Opel/GM parts bin. I personally like the pre 2006 cars from a stylistic impression but the newer ones are refreshing and modern. The new dash seems easier to see at night. SID display is conveniently in front of driver for air temp, fuel eco etc but very inconvenient for co-pilot and back seat drivers.
A brief brain dump that might help in no particular order comparing New to pre 2006
OLD Halogen headlights and driving lights have better illumination.I don't like maintaining Xenon but our 2006 has halogens so ok.
NEW front bumpers are more prone to popping at sides if you hit something.
NEW Lower volume means body parts harder to get.
NEW base seats are durable.
NEW two tone seats split at the inserts over time and leather wears.
NEW hood is heavier. Has longer hood struts
NEW base engine is essentially a 2002-5 AERO. Good power with less fuel economy than OLD
I miss the OLD wood trim around shifter.
NEW silver aero door spears are very prone to scratching but we have woodgrain plastic which are fine.
NEW door handles move and creak when pulled giving a "cheap" impression every time you close the door.
Very easy to migrate to the new aeroplane since interior, functionality and controls are virtually identical. Sharp learning curve improves transitional efficiency.
NEW rear corner brake lights harder to see when you brake increasing risk of rear end collision
New single backup light will puzzle the mechanic certifying the vehicle.
NEW exterior styling grows on you.
As we just learned rear license plate bulbs are different to maintain.
Fuel filter is now permanently installed in the fuel tank.
Still prone to rusting in the usual places.
NEW cars have longer life suspension bushings and tweaked steering. Handling dynamics are a bit improved due to other improvements in the suspension system.
NEW ABS module harder to get?
Our new rear view mirror has a compass which is nice. I can't get the garage door buttons to program. It might be our opener.
17 inch rims now stnd. Higher cost to replace tires.
Cdn models still have a block heater and trailer wiring rough -in.
