IS NOT of a lower Octane rating - it is actually the same. I have no idea where you get your information from or if you actually just made it up to stir up an otherwise simple discussion, but the only difference between European and American gasoline is the additives. That is why, for example, the previous generation BMW M3 had o use a different engine in US than in Europe. According to the BMW the gas in the US would have coroded the exotic materials used in the European-spec engine. But as far as Euro/Japaniese cars being "significantly detuned" for the US market that is just plain BS. Especially with the high-output performance cars it is in many cases quite the opposite. Take the last Toyota Supra Turbo, Mitsubishi 300GT VR-4, Nissan 300ZX Turbo, etc. They all had published horsepower figures between 300 to 320Hp. In Japan (I'm not sure about Europe) they all had 276Hp.
