So often times we see problems posted but unfortunately solutions are likely found but not published. I'm guilty of this from time to time, but not this time.
I have a 2007 9-5 that we did a complete engine rebuild on at 191,410 miles. The decision to rebuild was driven by the need for a clutch, timing chain, and valve guide seals. Yeah, rebuild is extreme, but fun too.
So rebuild went great; balance shaft delete (no regrets, still smooth), forged pistons, bored cylinders, OEM timing chain kit, the works). After about 2000 miles the car would run great at startup, but after about 15 minutes would revert to base boost or worse, slower than a Priss, and just be dismal. Searching solutions online many suggestions popped up, (1) CPS, (2) ground wire at thermostat housing, (3) engine coolant temperature sensor, (4) MAP, (5) throttle body, and (6) O2 sensor, and on it goes.
Well I tried everyone of these in the order I listed them. It was the O2 sensor in my case. The OBDII scans never indicated bad O2 sensor, strangely. But what a difference! Car is awesome, 15000 miles after rebuild, and has earned a stage 3 upgrade.
I was skeptical that a bad O2 sensor could ruin performance, but I suppose the T7 ECU management system is different enough from the T5 and LH2 that I'm more familiar with.
Anyway, this is my note in a bottle to the internet, hoping that it helps someone in the future.
happy saabing!
