Shifting from D/N/R does not change it.
I was listening again today, with stethoscope and the loudest sound is on the exhaust manifold, near #4, second loudest is intake manifold near #4. by far the loudest is with the probe on the exhaust manifold stud, farthest to the right (looking at engine)
I listened to the transmission area, on block and on the transmission and there was nothing alarming. some spinning sound, and a distant tapping. Perhaps I can rule out the flex plate?
I heard a trashy sound with the probe on the alternator body. I dont know if that sound was transmitted to the alternator body or if the alternator bearings are contributing to this.
I found some oil in the coolant today ... prob not a surprise.
