My 9000, which predeceased me, only got about 10 litres per 100km. Non-turbo, 4 speed auto. Our 2005/6 jets do much better so I might say that fuel economy "suffers" as opposed to being slightly worse. Although the pistons are just part of the package. If I were ever an engine, I would rather slug it out with lighter pistons every day. It's like walking up 100 flights of stairs without the ususual 10 lb weight belt on. Weight is hard on the joints and connecting rods.
