I designed the buildings and manufacturing support systems, NOT the transmissions - other than a brief spell while an Engineering Co-Op student.
DO NOT USE ADDITIVES!
Use the proper fluid, which for your 2002 is probably a Dexron-III equivalent. GM's bean counters and lawyers forbade oil blenders from using the trademarked Dexron-III name after Dexron-VI was introduced, so the internationally known oil blenders now use MD-III or variations of such on their containers since that was never trademarked by GM. D is for Dexron. M is for Mercor which was the identical fluid.
NOTE: Mercor fluid is NOT the same as Ford Type F fluid as Lincoln-Mercury vehicles used GM transmissions, at least for a while.
