My trunk switch failed a few years ago. I thought it could be a broken wire in the trunk connection, but none were broken. I started with the wiring diagram for the system and checked voltages with a multimeter just pulling the trunk switch out. They matched so I decided to spray contact cleaner in the switch since opening it probably would have destroyed it. It began to work again. The diagram will show if there is a shared ground and the colors of the the wires so you’ll know which to check voltages on.
Good luck.
