Agree with Jimmy that chronic undercharging due to high resistance cables is likely, pretty common with our older saabs. Undercharging will kill a battery well before it's time.
BTW each cell in lead battery is ~2.1 volts so a sudden drop from ~12 to ~10 could be explained by a failed cell. A failed cell can be a caused by mechanical failure of the physical plates, but more likely would be the cell shorted out due to sulfation (that sulfate buildup on the plates is the primary failure mode when the battery is undercharged)
