insanity of TWICE part numbers Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Wed, 29 Sep 2021 09:18:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Can anyone make any sense of these damned things?
There are literally dozens of different part numbers out there. Even when they match, they sometimes don't match.
Here's what I've gathered from here and some other sources: 12767179 is the latest part number used by Saab, and it is backwards compatible. Ok, great. But if you look at the actual part when you buy that, it's 12676180. I mean the main, big number on the centre of the part. Off to the side, among a myriad of other numbers is the 12767179 number, and underneath that a really big "PROD CODE 179".
The one in my car has the same main part number 12767180, but the other number is 12767182 (and the accompanying PROD CODE 182). If you search for "Saab 9-5 TWICE", you see dozens of different combinations of these numbers.
Why does any of this matter? Why not just buy the newest, backwards compatible one? Well, because it costs about what the entire car is worth. So for practical purposes, I have to navigate these other numbers and try to figure out what will work.
I guess my question is just rhetorical, why the hell do they have all these different numbers? And why is there not some kind of reference that will tell you which ones are compatible with what?
In the process of working this out, I've come to the obvious conclusion that I have two valid choices: 12767179 or 12767182 (though this is going on the assumption that the one in my car is the original part, otherwise it could be completely wrong).
The most annoying thing is that I bought a brand new one last year because it was advertised as fitting 9-5 99-09, and now I have no idea if it will work: 12759548 / 12759547. There's a real question. Anyone know? Internet search turns up zero information.
