A couple of other things re Saab leases right now. Everyone seems to agree that the residuals put into the leases are not optimal if you plan to lease only (i.e., turn it back in). BMWs and Volvos have higher residuals and therefore the spread between cap cost and residual which is used to calculate lease payments is smaller, everything else being equal.
But, Saab is countering with high incentives to bring down cap cost and the lease factor (interest) is very low. So those help.
And, if you lease to buy, it's all a wash, since higher payments are made up (in large part) by the lower buyout at the end. Then the incentives and low factor can make leasing to buy attractive even compared to outright buying up front.
Plus, if you want to lease only, you can plan on buying the car at the end, hope that you might get a lower than contract value for the buyout from Saab (which happens), and then flip and do an immediate private sale and make some of it back -- if you are willing to put up with the hassle. You can pick up at least a few more thousand this way, bringing your net cost of leasing over 3 or 4 years down further.
