Hello,
The fuse for the starter,I believe #30 in the dash fuse panel, is the first stop for power from the ignition switch. Check and see what voltage is present there when trying to start and it fails. If it is low it is the electrical portion of the electrical switch that is your issue. On the other hand you could try to power the fuse with a power probe when it won't start and see if that makes the car crank.
On the other hand I have had both cables be in an issue at times. See if either one gets a little warm when trying to start. I have also had control modules like power mirror memory effect the bus and keep the car from starting. Good Luck, Bernie
