Small sample size is the first and most logical arguement people use to defend their car's poor JD Power scores.

However, lets dissect this anyways:

The Saab 9-3 has been in the US market for how many years 3-4? and another 3-4 as the "NG-900"?

Now, I have no idea what the JD Power score is the previous years, but if its a statistical error due to a small sample size, then we can assume that at least a few of the previous generations have had good scores? Does it?

I'll give you 2 more reason/excuse people use for poor JD Power scores:

1. Only people who have problems fill out these surveys.

2. People who bash the car they buy are idiots, and not nice, so their opionions/views should not be counted, as it is biased and ignorant.

Well.. 1... I'm sure this will be very similar for small and large sample sizes. The flucations will higher for small sample size groups like Saab, but should at least balance out during a 10 year run on a car like the 9-3 right?

2... Saab buyers are among the most educated and computer savy. Saab dealerships have consistently received very high marks for customer satisfaction. So, can we not assume that Saab buyers don't have axes to grind unless their car is not to their satisifaction?

3... (Well, I put it here, because this is very weak arguement) Saab owners are more discriminating drivers/car owners than "them Japanese/Korean/American car drivers". What about the MB, BMW, Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Audi, JD Power Scores?

In terms of initial quality scores, Saab is right down there with the Korean cars that people here readily bash. I think Chevy and Pontiac is higher... Something to think about. If its any consolation, MB (not counting Chrysler) is dropping fast.
