Good question..
It would seem to be safe for the contacts themselves.. as contact cleaners are fast evaporating... so no gumming up to worry about..
However.. I did see mention on a honda forum that in their ignition, the contacts are apparently in a separate unit within the base of the ignition barrel, so it may depend on where you spray the contact cleaner if a problem will arise. They mentioned that if you simply spray it into the keyhole, you risk drying out the tumblers, which have a light lube on them... making the key stiffer to turn over time. They suggested spraying it at the base, to get through to the contacts, without impacting the tumblers. Others on that forum chimed in , saying they used WD40 contact cleaner with no issues.
I have absolutely no idea if the Saab ignition is configured similarly or if the tumblers drying up would be an issue.. So maybe others can chime in based on their experiences...
