wheel bearing brand Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Sun, 14 May 2023 12:28:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I need a new front wheel bearing for my '07. I am faced with a cornucopia of brands and price points from Rock Auto. I imagine the most prevalent advice will be to go with OEM, which I'm guessing was SKF?
Other than that, I have a hard time evaluating any of the other brands. Beck/Arnley and Raybestos are both more expensive than SKF, while there's a bunch of brands that range from around the same price, to half price to virtually free on warehouse clearance.
Has anyone heard of Schaeffler branded bearings? It's listed as a "daily driver" quality, along with the SKF, but ships from the same warehouse as other parts I'm buying.
EDITED TO ADD: I found out that Schaeffler Group owns both FAG and INA bearing. I believe those are both quality companies.
I recognize the name Centric, which are one of the half price units in the "economy" category. I guess that's to be avoided?
On a general note, do these "economy", "daily driver" and "performance" categories at Rock Auto even mean anything? There's always ones in the higher categories that are cheaper than some in the lower categories.
Lastly, should I leave the other wheel bearing alone, or replace it? I'm doing the ball joints and sway bar links on both sides. I wouldn't consider it with one of the off brands, but maybe if I go with OEM. The car has about 200k on it, and I have no idea if the bearings have been replaced before.
