I'm trying to help out my cousin who has a 2003 9-5 Aero with automatic transmission. I don't have physical access to the car since he lives a considerable distance away.
Suddenly the trans has lost drive and reverse, though he says it sounds like it is trying to go into reverse but not getting there. (Shift solenoid problem?) Previously the only noticeable symptom was delayed 2-3 shift. He says fluid level appears to be OK. The fluid is a bit dark but not burnt or gritty. Partial fluid change was done a couple of years ago.
I looked at saabwisonline.com but didn't see troubleshooting info for this problem. What should we be checking before condemning the transmission? He does have a Tech2 for reading transmission codes and running diagnostics.
