This happens over time to just about every 9-5. I doubt it had anything to do with the windshield replacement because that plastic cowling simply slides forward to remove once the engine bay mounding, wiper arms and a couple of fasteners are removed. I found some generic moulding on eBay that does a pretty good job of replicating that mounding. It does take some work though because the old molding is bonded to the plastic cowling so it has to be carefully scraped off to avoid damaging the very thin edge. Then the new molding can be easily attached with some contact cement. So far, it actually seems to hold up better than the original. It isn’t a huge problem if you want to just leave it alone because dirt and debris enter under that cowling through the air slots anyway. But that degraded molding seems to catch leaves and other debris and is visually unattractive so you may want to replace it if you have the ambition. If you do the job you may want to allow some time for cleaning out that area under the cowling because it can hold a lot of dirt and debris. The drains can clog to the point that water can drain into the interior. This a particular problem if you frequently park under trees.
