non-metallic paint ? What color is the paint ?
Either way, first clean up any residual with a good cleaner first. I know exactly what you are talking about, the offending material left a residual mark on the paint. Sometimes, the paint would "heal" a little bit in time, almost like a light water mark on wood furniture.
Unless you have left the poop unattended for a long time, you can easily remove the mark with a very mild polish, such as Meguires (sp?) swirl and scratch remover (I think it is #9 in their professional line). Anything similar would also do. Don't use anything too strong, it's better to use a very mild polish and apply it to the spot a couple of times than a strong abrasive and polishing it back to a good finish.
Yes, try Car Care Online site, it's a good reference source even if you don't buy from them.
