that you should use semi-synth, yes there's a Saab brand but obviously it's repackaged something. Either make nice with the parts guy or study the fine print on the back of a quart, you should be able to figure out who makes it.
I don't see that going from semi- to full- is a problem, it should be better but perhaps not noticeably. But it's probably best to stick with genuine Saab filters regardless of who/where you have the changes done.
Just remember to keep all paperwork for non-dealer work, because if there's ever an engine-related warranty claim that's the first roadblock they will put up to try and deny it.
