Lots of stuff could leave you stranded on a long trip if you don't have parts tools and knowledge with you. The issue now is fewer places have Saab parts and knowledge, at least up here. The c900 is a bit simpler, but with the 9-5, I keep a basic scan tool in the car so if I get a CEL, I can search the code (usually just on Saabnet actually) and go from there. If you don't have a Saab tech nearby, it might be worth getting a tech2, though they are kinda big to stash in the glove box.

Serp belt and pulleys are a scheduled maintenance item. I keep a spare belt just in case. Makes sense to do with the water pump. I get rid of the coolant bypass (they fail and dump coolant) and reconnect with a replacement pair of hoses (Mackay or do88 make them).

I keep a dic and plugs in the car, easy fix at the side of the road if needed. Ditto for the turbo bypass valve.

Fuel pump can be monitored (see Anders' oscilloscope posts). I keep a spare in case.

I keep a variety of other small parts in the car (on long remote trips) just in case. Things like thermostat, spare coolant cap, cps, etc. just dumb stuff that could be a problem and might be hard to source in a low population area.

Other stuff depends on model year and a search of the 9-5 bb will give you loads of info on issues specific to model years. I have assumed the 2.3L here, not the V6.

Good luck!
