Re: Diagnosing from afar. Bad noise from Radiator or AC fan? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Diagnosing from afar. Bad noise from Radiator or AC fan?, Mike Johnson, Mon, 15 Jul 2024 03:36:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The problem is that there are a number of things that could be causing the noise. Might be the AC fan of course, but it might be the compressor, the belt slipping if it's in bad shape or the tensioner is weak, or even some other belt-driven accessory reacting to the additional load the compressor puts on the belt system.
One way to tell if it's the fan would be to briefly disconnect it, turn on the AC, and see if the noise goes away.
If turns out to be the fan, esaabparts.com shows that there used to be a complete assembly with both fans but it is listed as unavailable:

The AC fan is available separately, shipped from Sweden:

You can search the part numbers to see if other suppliers have stock. Another possibility would be to fit a generic aftermarket fan. I recently did this for the condenser fan in my 9000.
