I wanted to document this rather unusual situation for anyone who may pull a P0101 fault code. Fortunately there is a lot of good info out there regarding this issue. Most of my research pointed to a vac leak between the throttle body and the MAF. I started by changing all of my smaller vac lines, which were looking pretty worn out. With that done, I drove several miles without a CEL thinking it was fixed, then the same code came up again. Next on the list was cleaning the TB and then the MAF. As I started removing the MAF, I noticed that the air flow arrows were pointing in the wrong direction! I had just had the power steering pump replaced by a local shop and figured my mechanic had removed all the upper components for easier access and had inadvertently replaced the MAF in the wrong orientation. After cleaning and switching it into the correct direction, I have not had any issues and it now seems to be running perfectly. I live in an area where good SAAB shops are becoming harder and harder to find. While I do as much DIY as I can, some "professional" repair is unavoidable. Unfortunately (in my case) it is necessary to look everything over to double-check the work. Hope this is useful info to future trouble shooters.
