Just an FYI on my recent experiences...

I recently noticed that my turbo boost gauge was limited to staying in the white zone, indicating no or little boost. The car had no zip on the highway or when pushing it... I removed the pre-cat O2 sensor, and took it for a quick spin, and noticed it was spooling a bit better.. indicating that my 24 year old cat was clogged...

I had tried a couple of aftermarket Cats from Walker 2 yrs ago, but it was very frustrating, as neither fit correctly. One was short by 3 inches. and the other had welded pipes at incorrect angles which interfered with it fitting correctly. The car was running ok at the time, other than the CEL code indicating that the post-cat O2 sensor was getting a bad reading. As a temporary workaround I put in one of those O2 spacers, which took care of the CEL... for the time being.

So this time around with the clogged cat, I had little choice but to address the actual problem, so I tried another cat, This time an AP/EASTERN 642711 (40331) from RockAuto.. It fit fine, much to my surprise. When I took the car for a test drive, I couldn't believe the improvement in acceleration.. as the turbo was now spooling up properly, with the gauge going well into the yellow zone..

In any case, I though I'd post this, in case others were having similar issues... and wary of some of the aftermarket options.

Mike
