From the SaabUSA website, limited time offers...

Saab "standard" lease terms are 48 mos, 12,000 miles per year, $1,999 down payment/cap reduction PLUS first payment, security depoist and acquisition fee..... plus local applicable tax and license.

Here in San Diego local sales tax of 7.75%, on the $1,999 cap reduction must be paid or about $160 and California license is about $300 so that's in addition to the $3,182.78 quoted for a total of about $3,600ish.

A $37,515 9-5 which includes automatic and premium package (but not metallic paint for $475) for only $339 plus tax is truly magic.

The dealer doesn't quite get $6,750 on a lease, but almost that much. And to make the advertised payment point the dealer has to give up two thirds of his profit leaving him only a couple of percentage points of profit.

So to correct your impression, the $1,999 is just the "cap reduction" or down payment, 1st, security and acquisition fee AND local tax and license are added to that, see above.

There shouldn't be any "prep and handling". The dealer should provide you with a detailed car full of gas for the ad price, although dealers are not bound to the ad price, it's a skinny deal for the dealer (and conversely a great deal for the consumer) and if ad lease deals were all I sold as a Saab sales consultant I'd starve.

You can adjust the term, say you wanted 36 months, the payments are higher, but the actual lease rate is even better so the payment is closer that the normal $50-80 for reducing a 48 months to 36, making the miles 15,000 a year is relatively inexpensive. And you can put less than $3,600ish in drive offs, it just raises the payment, but you still get all the dealer incentives, discounts and subvented rates.

Roger is dead wrong. He's right about the $6,750 or the 0%, take the money it's almost twice the normal finance charge for 36mos and you'll save. But with the lease you get almost as much in dealer incentives AND the low rate of around 2%, so the lease if the best overall deal, still with a huge incentive and a low rate too.
