compound, don't use anything harsh, such as rubbing compound. You would rather use a very mild abrasive polish a few times than a coarse hard abrasive and scratch up the paint more.
I have attached a link for you (http://www.carcareonline.com/ or click on the link below). This is a good site to visit even if you don't buy anything. There are some "how to" articles.
I would recommend something like Meguire's professional grade swirl remover. I have much success with this product for minor to moderate scratches. Similar 3M products are reputed to be even better but I have not used them.
