Fire in the hole!!!

I went out to start up my 1999 Saab 9-5 and it would not start. I turned the key, heard the engine turn over a number of times... but it never started.
After doing this a few times, I smelled something electrical burning. I popped the hood open and could see light smoke (enough to make me concerned that there may be a very small fire) emitting from the direct ignition cover on the driver's side. I also noticed a little smoke on the other side of the direct ignition cover as well. I hook of the direct ignition module ans from what I remember... the four ingition "tubes" were smoking like gun barrels.
The ony thing I did prior to this was fill up my gas tank as it was almost completly empty.
This car has 42K miles and I have never missed a service date.
Does anyone have any idea what happened? Is the direct ingnition module shot???
