Agreed. Although I'm hung up on the fact that SAAB is using semi-synthetic oil instead of fully synthetic.
Our 2000 BMW 528i uses a BMW-specific, Castrol-manufactured (not Syntec), fully synthetic 5W-30, and its maintenance computer calls for oil changes every 15,000 to 17,000 miles! This was shocking at first, but I had an oil analysis done, and everything checks out fine.
These newer oils are really something.
I've been following the various threads on the internet about this newer Mobil 1, and some claim that the 0W-40 "European Car" formula is the best Mobil 1 on the market right now.
The SAAB manual suggests 5W-30 semi-synth, but it goes on to say that fully synthetic oils "of well known brands" are even better, especially the 0W-30 and 0W-40 grades.
I will most likely use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my Aero.
About oil filters...
Which oil filter is best?
-SAAB OEM (these appear to be made by GM now?)
-MANN (used to be the Saab OEM filter)
-Mobil 1
