I used to live in NYC and commute to NJ (don't ask why but many do).
I used to pay $$$ to park in a Upper East Side garage. First came those bumper dings from the licence plate screws of other cars. Then I guess an attendant must have sat on the hood, the hood had a dent, but it popped out a few weeks later leaving just a small indent. Oddly, enough, no door dings for the more than one year I parked there.
Catherine, can't really help with inconsiderate people, especially in NYC where $$$ runs amuck and you are always a nobody. Yes, can tip the attendant but that's no guarantee. Any park and lock places instead of valets where you work ?
You may end up doing the passive approach, just be careful in general, and when the car has accummulated enough scratches and dents, send it to a good detailing shop with dent removal services. The key is to find a *GOOD* shop not some wanna be detailing shop that hires inexperienced detailers with wool brushes to put more swirls on your car.
