The dealer where I bought mine looked at the wear and said that the noise was due to the uneven wear, which was due to an out of alignment condition, so they'd be happy to sell me a new set.
The kicker is that Tire Racks page on the Gen2's mentions that the new tread design was redesigned to avoid uneven wear and the resulting noise. Any way to tell if the uneven wear is due to a tire problem or an alignment problem? I had the car aligned about 6 months/7k miles ago due to a slight pull and the shop noted "noisy tires" then, but I didn't do anything about it.
These things have worn really well, and have great traction, but they are too noisy to keep on the car. I really hate to buy a new set of tires when the old ones still have tread. That's just wrong. On the other hand, I have about 16k on them now so they really aren't new anymore.
