Most natural carnuba waxes will stain black plastic trim. To avoid the staining, either tape the trim with masking tape before applying the wax or use a carnuba that does not stain. The best I know of is One Grand Blitz. Excellent wax and no staining.
If you use an acrylic or polymer finish, (Duragloss, Klasse AIO, Meguire's #20 etc,) it does not stain, so no worries.
If it is already stained, I suggest using Mother's Back to Black trim treatment. It is readily available at most auto parts stores and does a fine job. If there is a lot of staining, it may take several applications to reduce the stain.
There are some folks here and at other forums that advoacte the use of peanut butter to remove the stains. I have not yet attempted this because of the fear that the advocates (practical jokers) will be laughing their *sses off as I attempt it. Your choice to try it or not to try it.
