That's another thing I don't like about radar and speeding tickets: radar is not infallible; it's very easy to clock the wrong car and give the ticket to someone who doesn't deserve it. Or sometimes the cops totally identify the wrong car...
Over 10 years ago, I was driving my 9000T on the highway going about 65, when some other car flew by me, at what must have been 100 mph. The driver of that car was weaving madly in and out of traffic, and he disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.
Moments later, a cop came up behind me, lights ablaze.. I thought for sure he was going after that guy going 100, but instead, he pulled ME over! After we were stopped, the cop came up to my car, very angry, and quite hostile. I wasn't really used to dealing with cops, much less very angry ones, and this is how the conversation went:
COP: Do you have any idea of how fast you were going?!
ME: Uhm, I'm not sure, around 65?
COP: You were *NOT* going 65!!!
The cop disappeared into his cruiser, and wrote me up for 65. I tried fighting it in court, telling the judge exactly what the cop said (that I was NOT going 65), thinking this might invalidate the ticket for 65 mph.
The judge asked the cop if he said that; the cop replied, "NO", and that was that. The cop lied, but it was his word against mine, so I wound up paying the ticket.
They're in cahoots--they're all in bed together.
At least I learned something valuable that day: NEVER admit to any speed to a police officer who asks; if he doesn't have a radar reading, he'll immediately write you up for whatever speed you say. If you tell the police officer you were going 55 (or whatever the speed limit happens to be), it'll only make him angry, which is definitely not a good thing.
Instead, it's better to try to say something neutral, like, "I was concentrating on the road (or the traffic), and I didn't have a chance to look at my speedometer before we pulled over to the side of the road".
Anyhow, good luck, and I hope that cop remembered what he promised you!
