A1/A5 versus A3

Looking at the chart on page 5 of the ACEA .pdf file (link below), the only other significant difference I can see is that A3 has a higher viscosity at high temperature and high shear rate (third row, requirement 1.3), when compared with A1 and A5.
I think A3 is a tougher specification to meet, compared to A1 or A5; what I don't like about A1/A5 is that both of those categories contain the phrase "These oils may be unsuitable for use in some engines."
It's not clear as to which engines those might be, but one thing's for sure: Mobil 1 SS in 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 are NOT approved by MB. The thing that they share in common is that they do not meet A3 spec.
While the SAAB seems to be a bit contradictory in their recommendations (the manual says to use A3-spec oil, and yet they provide A1-spec semi-synth at the dealer), it's clear what most of the other European manufacturers (MB, Porsche, BMW) specify: A3-spec oil.
And we have a post (straight from the mouth of a VIKINGMAN, no less!--see his post on 24 Sep 2002 11:10:38), that Mobil 1 0W-40 (A3-spec) is the factory fill for all new SAABs.
I wonder what the SAAB dealers in Sweden pour in at oil changes?
