We really wanted a Volvo for it's safety record until we drove one. What we didn't like about the S60 was the lack of visibility, especially out the right rear for lane changing, and the price. Seems strange that a brand that built it's reputation on safety would sell a car with a big blind spot. Had the car been perfect except for price we might have gone for a European delivery to save a couple thousand bucks and would have gotten a trip out of it. Volvo has a much better European delivery program than SAAB. Then on to the Accord & Camry in versions equipped with side airbags, which we considered a must have for us.
The Accord was too noisey. We are replacing a '93 Accord, which has way too much tire noise at speed & read that the 03 was as quiet as a Camry (this was written in a way to imply that Camry's set the standard). There was virtually no difference in noise between the 93 & the 03, and the Camry was similar (and the Camry's GPS system lost the satellites during the test drive & didn't pick the up again when we got back to the dealer's--not a good sales item). Both are quiet enough on smooth pavement, but where studs have roughened up the pavement, they are loud. There were a few other minor complaints, which I don't remember now.
We now have 500 mi. on the SAAB & have still like everything about it. And the refrigerated glove box is really neat & fun to brag about! It's a great car!
