11 mpg is very low, but you can't expect very good mileage if your trips are frequent, short and slow. Try this: start your car in the morning, clear the SID and watch the mpg display as you drive off. Even at an economy cruise speed (like 45 mph in high gear) you will see very poor readings because the car is running rich in warm-up mode. After 10 minutes, clear the SID again and re-check your mpg at the same speed and gear - it will be _much_ better, since the mixture is now properly leaned out. You can clear the display at any time to get a readout of current mpg. This is a real pain in the @ss compeared to other cars which have an "instananeous mpg" setting (like my Audi A4), but it does work.
My point is that if you have a new car, with lots of cold starts and slow driving, expect a horrendous mpg. Clearing the SID before a highway trip will start you out fresh and reveal mpg in the mid to upper 20s (or better). I average 26 mpg over the long term (not clearing the display) with my '01 Aero Wagon, with mixed rural/ highway driving and very little heavy commuting. I hardly ever suffer through stop-and-go traffic, which kills your mileage.
