I have never towed anything with my Aero Wagon, but I will comment anyway, for what it is worth ;) I have hauled a lot of different trailers around ....
If you NEVER plan to launch your boat from a ramp, I say give it a try.
Otherwise, count on getting seriously stuck every so often. Traction control or no, the front end will be unloaded and your car may not have enough grip to be able to drag that (relatively) heavy sailboat up a slick ramp at low tide. This is one big reason you see so many 4x4s towing boats.
You will likely need an equalizing hitch. The boat dealer will probably tell you that you can't use one on a boat trailer. What you need is called a "pole tongue adapter" which is nothing more than a piece of steel that bolts (or better yet, welds) at 90 degrees to the tongue to give you a place to mount the spring bar chain attachments. I used one on a heavy SeaRay (up to 9500 pounds total weight) which I pulled behind my big-block Suburban. It really helped calm down the pitching and shoving.
As far as trailer brakes go, get them and keep them working. For salt water immersion, stainless discs work great, but are expensive and require a modified surge brake unit. If you never submerge the trailer, go with electric brakes and a high-end controller like the Jordan.
Keep in mind that the boat gear will add a lot to the total weight. Ground tackle, extra sails and gear, a dinghy, and supplies for a week jaunt can _really_ add up quickly. Be sure to include the weight of this stuff in your calculations.
BTW, what boat?
