I did this conversion over the summer and have since put about 3,000 miles on the car w/ no problems. First, you will want to purchase an '01 Aero ECU and invest in a bleeder valve. The bleeder valve can be made for about $20 w/ parts from Home Depot. Anyway, when you install the Aero ECU, you would think that when you enter in an Aero VIN, it should just be running around 18psi. Not the case (not sure why...had 3 technicians, two of which were master techs, working on this w/ me). That's why we used the bleeder valve. The base boost on my '99 2.3LPT was .4 bar...and on an Aero it's .45 bar. We adjusted mine to .6 bar (this basically makes the car rely more on the wastegate rather than the bleeder valve to achieve 18psi) and then used the bleeder valve, and Tech II (to read what boost I was doing and make sure it wasn't running too rich or too lean) to adjust the boost to 18psi. The neat thing about the bleeder valve is that you get full boost in every gear, instead of having to wait until 3rd gear ('91 was the last year Saab allowed full boost in all gears). The other thing you'll need to do is put the NGK plugs that the Aero's use (w/ the platinum, I believe it is) in your car in order for it to start correctly (otherwise it will go up to about 3 grand when started on a cold engine and slowly drop...the plugs used in the Aero immediately cured this).

The only downside to this right now is that my check engine light is on. I'm getting the numerical code, hopefully in a few days (forgot it). It's under "turbo performance" in the IRIS system and basically says that it can tell the turbo is putting out more than the 7psi that was stock. I still haven't figured out a fix for this yet, but I'm talking to several people about it...hopefully something will come along soon.

The only other thing that I'm doing (shouldn't be a problem if you leave the stock exhaust on) is installing a Sport Exhaust this weekend, hopefully. Hope this helps, feel free to e-mail me w/ any other questions you may have.

Jim
