We have fit one rear-facing infant seat (in the middle) a booster (behind driver) and a regular forward facing (behind passenger) car seat in the back. When we were looking for a sedan that could take up to three in the back I dragged around a few car seats to the dealers to see which had the most room and wouldn't force the driver's seat forward when rear-facing. The Audi A6 line and the Saab were the winners. The Passat is tight. My Dad has a 99 Passat and a 2002 Volvo XC. We just had two kid's seats in each of those cars this weekend. I thought the Saab had better back seat space. -- Just my opinion.
In reality the 9-5 is my daily driver and we have a 02 Suburban as the family hauler. Suburbans get a bad rap becuase they are huge, but there is nothing finer for the family. We have AWD, diaper changing station (third row bench), video player, and room to walk around between the 2nd row buckets. If you have to go big you might as well get the most room for your money;)
