But the fact is that the likelihood of being able to totally ban all telecommunications equipment from cars is not high, so at least having your hands free to drive is a start. TO rationalize banning all cell phone use, one would also have to ban women putting on makeup, people glancing at the newspaper on the seat beside them, and arguing with your unruly kids in the back seat who ask" Are we there yet"?. This isn't rocket science, it's driving. Since the competency level of the average driver is pretty bad to start with( my opinion),there is only so much that you can do to get someone to pay attention to something that they are not particularly interested in, or good at, in the first place. Having used hands free systems in my 9-5 and while nothing is perfect, I believe that this is far superior to having to dial and physically hold the phone to your ear. It maight not be as utopian as banning all communications, but that is just not on the horizon in my opinion.
