ok i dont have any experiance with limp home mode, but that sure doesnt sound like limp home mode. first of all you cant drain the battery that low with the radio or any cell phone. i would say your alternater is not well. so the battery was in a state of partial dischage even before you went to wait for friends. thats almost exactly what happened to my 99' 9-5 se 2.3auto the car started to not start well. even though the cranking rps sounded just right. and then finaly about a week after those simptoms, the car got stranded in a parking lot while listining to the radio. took it to the dealer they said "defective battery" and put in a new one 2 weeks later same deal. car started to not start well. took it in again "oh yea, you need a new alternator" they put that in car has been fine for months.
