When I ride in my friend's '00 9-3 Sport(15,000 miles) and cannot believe the creaks and rattles and the noise that enters the cabin. For the stiff ride you would think that it would handle better but it will squeal the tires if I try to put it through any handle tests that I would not even hestitate about putting the 9-5 Aero through.
Steve, to keep my 9-5 Aero wagon(black/gray) clean I try to avoid touching the paint with my hands. That means brushless car washing and many handheld pressure washes just to remove the bugs before going through the automatic wash. Yes, black is about the worst color if your not keen on washing it many times a month but the rewards are endless(not to mention the compliments!). With only 7000 miles I have only hand washed my black wagon once and that was before I spent three days putting multiple coats of Zaino Brothers show car polish(Z1, Z5(scratch remover is a must for black paint), and Z2). I figure a $4 car wash on a $40K car is nothing. Besides what detailer would charge they never do it to your liking. Not to mention orbit buffer marks look terrible in the sun light on black paint.
As for the steering being overboost...hey, it's a sports sedan car. Actually if you want to feel overboost steering try one of GM's Magnasteer which has a magnetic variable assist. It almost had me going into the curb a few times. I actually like the steering as it is very linear and not overly sensitive at highway cruise. The same goes for the auto crossing as I just put my hands ans 10 and 2 'o clock and leave them there for the run through the cones.
Good luck!
