Castrol Syntec 5W-50 does carry the ACEA3, B3-98 designation. If these ratings are credible, and I think they are, the 5W-50 is a high quality oil. I have not run it in my SAAB but have used for about 75,000 miles in an Audi and another 75,000 in a FIAT and had very good results. - No lubrication problems and minimal consumption.
I think it's a good product in the 5W-50 formulation. This runs contrary to most of the opinions on this board, but it is based on actual experience with the product, and at least some of the other opinions expressed, are not actually based on experience with the product.
I realize I am subject to all kinds of ranting and raving for stating this, but I have found the Syntec to be a high quality oil.
