If OnStar is capable of unlocking the doors on other cars, certainly it should be able to do so on a SAAB--essentially, all that needs to be done is to find the appropriate output trigger wire from the OnStar unit, and hook it up to the unlock trigger wire that the anti-theft system uses when you press the unlock button on the remote control.

Oh, maybe a relay and a diode need to be thrown in there as well, but it can definitely be done.

I'm no electrical engineer, but I have installed my share of aftermarket stereo systems and alarm systems, and if I can do that, certainly, Bubba at OnStar can call up Sven in Sweden and ask him for a schematic in order to hook this thing up properly :-)

Somehow, I suspect Bubba is to blame, and not Sven, but who knows... in any event, _somebody_ got lazy and did a half-assed installation!!

I've never locked my keys in the car before (knock on wood), but others with remote unlocking and/or unlock keypads (Fords, Nissans) lock the keys in the car ON PURPOSE, like when going to the beach, where losing your keys or getting them wet (a big no-no with $200 electronic keys) is a real possibility.

And now that SAABs are not using central unlocking for the trunk, it is possible to lock your keys in there accidentally, unlike with earlier SAABS, where it was almost impossible.

As for the lack of remote engine diagnostics, this is pretty much inexcusable as well; all new cars in the U.S., Saabs included, have a standard OBD II port, so all OnStar needs to do is hook up there to grab the fault codes.
