Watts are not just Watts Posted by AdamB [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 150 W versus 200 W Stereo?, Roberto, Sat, 9 Nov 2002 13:29:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There's a ton of different ways to measure W. I suspect the Saab numbers are RMS, and the ones from your local electronics shop are Dynamic, PMPO or something like that. Also it's important how many Ohms the Watt is stated at. Less Ohms = higher W number. So there are plenty of ways electronic/hifi manufacturers can fiddle with the numbers and confuse buyers. Aaron Gilbert from the board, can probably explain exactly how the different ways of calculating W works.
32W RMS is plenty to make your ears hurt, but an amp with more watts usually sound less strained at higher volumes.
