We are currently mourning the death of a young member of our Saab family because he loved to drive fast on public roads. We don't want to mourn another.
I lost two of my best friends in high school to street racing along with a bystander that was unlucky enough to get hit head on by a stupid kid driving on the wrong side of the road. One friend died, the other went to prison. They thought that the stretch that they raced on was deserted too. Remember, all it takes is one person to make a middle of the night run to grab a quart of milk, and the guy in the wrong lane is dead meat along with the poor fool who had to run the errand to appease his pregnant wife.
Before you think that I'm an old coot trying to rain on your fun, I need to tell you that I'm only 25 years old, and still wake up at night sweating because two of my closest friends didn't have the common sense to not race with the rest of the idiots from our school on Friday nights. Watching Jimmy die wasn't nearly as bad as watching David (our third leg) get arrested and convicted on two counts of vehicular manslaughter. Two of my best friends' lives ruined because they went to the Friday night street races. If you don't believe me. Look it up, it happened in Edmond, Oklahoma eight years ago.
Please, use your head.
Cheers,
Brian.
