Jetplate--
Sorry if I wasn't more specific in my original post--I thought I was--that this is for the Trionic software UPDATE and not something like changing the duration of the rear seat seater timer. . . .
My reasoning is that first, the car is under warranty. No doubt about that. Why then should they fuss about performing the memory flash, especially since the car is in for its scheduled 20,000 maintenance? If the new software helps rule out OTHER anomalies (cold weather idle flutter, irregular acceleration, etc.), why wouldn't be in their interest to do the flash as part of the routine?
I suppose I agree that it takes a minute for a tech to plug in the handheld device under the dash . . . but the bigger scheme of things, it's a negligible effort compared to replacing the turbo or other major warranty items. It makes good business sense from a customer service perspective, too--it wasn't MY fault that their engineers released new code.
Thanks very much,
-JPW
