I drive a 1999 95 with 60 K miles. Below I list the problems encountered thus far,( many which I gather from the BB postings are not uncommon):
- failed DI
- failed throttle body
- failed ECU
- oil leak from faulty timing chain cover (engine had to be pulled)
- 2 split CV boots
- failed SID
- defective drivers seat memory
- defective passenger power seat
- failed windshield washers (check valves clogged)
- failed shock absorber

I drive the car in a reasonable manner. It's my 3rd SAAB, the one it replaced, a 1986 SAAB 9000 was a magnificent auto with over 200k miles before totaled in an accident. I performed all service, car never died, besides standard service items I replaced engine mounts, water pump, blower fan motor, timing chain and tensioner, and rebuilt clutch master and slave cylinders. That was it, turbo, suspension, alternator, etc was all original.

Now back to the 95. Lots o problems, some which a DIY cannot handle. More complex electronics, auto tranny, etc. After the DI failed,(if you have not seen my postings on the DI, it's an impractical design from a reliability standpoint) I got a call from an extended warranty sales person.

Any thoughts/advice whether the purchase of an extended warranty makes sense for this auto ? Please, no JD Powers intial quality statics, the boxes used by consumer reports showing the circles and long term repair records of autos is the only information I have any belief in. Someone mentioned JD Powers as a "hired gun" , I absolutely agree.

Thanks for any feedback, Dick
