I think that you have sticking lifters or valves. Deposits are usually the cause. I suggest that you use a can of snake oil (Winns will work) that claims to free sticking rings and valves. Do that one week before an oil change. Then use Mobil 1 10W40 or 0W40. Don't extend the first oil change. Can you find out if the dealer did the oil changes and what oil was used?
I had a very slight ticking in my 95SET and tried the snake oils and switched from Castrol grp III FakeTec(tm) dyno oil to Mobil 1 10W30 and everything became quiet. It was a slight thing, could only hear inside the cab with doors closed. Later on 5W40 (Delvac) make the beasty super smooth and quiet and improved mpg's as well, but that is another oil war :)
If the previous owner was not into the best oils... perhaps a bottle of Techron Concentrate would be a good idea too. You might notice faster starting and smoother idle.
How many miles. Must be under 60K I guess.
