I have both engines:
- '99 9-5 se w/3.0L v6, auto, 64k
- '98 cse w/2.3L 225hp, manual, 56k
Yes, the 9-5 has more miles on it because we drive that everywhere.... Having said that, the v6 has loads of torque and excellent power. I have not had one single problem with this car.
The 2.3L turbo is a totally different experience, heighten by a std tranny. Words cannot describe the feeling when the turbo spools up and kicks in. No problems with this engine either.
Technically speaking, the 2.3L engine should 'last' longer, if you plan on putting a half million miles on. The 2.3L engine block is cast in Germany, with high nickel content in the iron. The v6 is cast by General Motors, enough said.
