WOW,
I am so glad to be out of the slush box rental. 15 days of rental and insurance picked up all but around $50 in costs, that was ok.
My 95SET was a machine, you were aware of mechanical function and dis-function. It was a intimate union of ones senses and machinery. It was a blast to drive and cornering was a very physical experience and great fun.
Thing have changed in 7 years! The Areo is very much more than the sum of its parts. Very impressed. I am sure that I will slowly find things that are not so impressive...
Speaking of not impressed. SHIFT LIGHT GAK!!! I thought that these went away! Are they legally required? Can't they be defeated with the Tech-II? My 95SET from Canada had the basic European KM only instrument cluster. Guess what, I never had to deal with the shift light, just read about everyone else's frustrations with it? "Dean, cut the blue wire!"
It was cold and windy last night, mpg's were low, as they would be with the 95SET. Chilly this AM, no wind. I got over 29mpg on the highway segment of my usual commute. With a green engine! I think that things will improve and I will get better mpgs' than the 95SET on the highway. In the city, with around 3700 pounds VS 3200, I do expect that the fuel consumption will suffer in proportion to the weight. But the Aero will probably invite a less sporty driving style than the 95SET... but when become integrated with the Aero, I might be retracting such thinking!
The 0W40 MobilOne probably is helping a lot. Anyone notice a mpg loss when going to other oils after the factory fill was drained?
Other observations. No valet key anymore, no radio anti theft code card, no nice black leather folder for the owners manual etc, glad to have the one from 1995. No antenna requiring cleaning and prayers to keep working over the years.
So it take me a long time to adjust to a vehicle. But the 9-5 does feel at home in many respects. But yet everything is different. I was really concentrating on my driving and traffic today, and given my recent experiences, I was thankful to get to work without anyone ramming into me.
So I can start looking forward to driving being one of the most exciting parts of my day again.
